This is my formal apology to Carrie Bradshaw.

Despite sharing a name with the show, Carrie Bradshaw’s weekly newspaper column Sex and the City very rarely makes a significant appearance in the show. It’s something fans love to poke fun at; that Carrie manages to live such a glamorous and upscale lifestyle despite only writing one column a week. And that despite that column being relatively short and about a predetermined topic- sex, and the city, Carrie always seems to be overly stressed, running late, and facing an imminent deadline. What a stupidly small amount of work, I thought, laughing along at Carrie’s dramatic complaints.
And then I tried writing weekly blog posts and oh. My. God.
Trying to come up with one thing to write about is hard enough, let alone three! And then trying to have new or witty observations on that topic? A whole ‘nother ballgame. My life is pretty repetitive, I go to work, I play with my cat, I go to sleep. And with the part’s of my life that are exciting- working as a production assistant, living in Los Angeles, attending local underground events- I struggle to find ways to engage with these topics with other people.
I know that most of you reading and responding to this post are also enrolled in the Online Audiences course at UCLA Extension. How are you deciding what to blog about? How do you decide which opinions and experiences to write about in your posts and which ones to keep for yourself?
