The New Deal is a nondescript little cafe sitting on the corner of Magnolia and Avon. It’s a cozy spot, with mix-and-match seating and an extensive local brew selection. But open up the menu and you’ll notice something interesting; Every menu item is inspired by Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States.

Try FDR’s favorite sandwich, a grilled cheese on white bread! Or a Cobb salad recipe lucky straight from the 30s! Each dish is inspired by American classics, with a dessert menu that changes every day. (This place awoke a in me a deep love for banana pudding. 1000% recommend.)

Locally owned, The New Deal is run by a small but loyal staff who come armed with the best recommendations. But truly, I think you could close your eyes and point at the menu that’s how good everything is.

My Fave? The biscuits and gravy. Takes me right back to family reunions in West Virginia.

So if you’re looking for great food with even better customer service, pop on in and enjoy a little tase of presidential history.
